Addiena is a half-circle shawl based on Elizabeth Zimmermann’s pi shawl formula. It is knit from the top down with increases occurring only on designated increase rows throughout. The pattern includes both written and charted instructions.

Yarn:
approx 865 yds of lace weight yarn (sample uses Madelinetosh Pure Silk Lace)

Needles:
US size 4 (3.50 mm) 24 in. or longer circular needle

Gauge:
21 stitches and 35 rows/4 inches in stockinette stitch, blocked
24 stitches and 28 rows/4 inches in Chart E Lace
(gauge is not crucial since this isn’t a fitted garment but changes in gauge can affect both the size of the shawl and the yarn required to complete it)

Notions:
stitch markers (optional), yarn needle, blocking pins/wires

Finished size:
approx. 53 inches x 30 inches (size is dependent upon gauge and how severely you block it)
