Cowl is worked top-down in the round. The circumference at
the top of the cowl is smaller than at the bottom because each
stitch pattern used (Stockinette, X Texture, and Lace) creates
different gauges (using the same needle.) There is one round in which shaping occurs (between the Stockinette and X Texture sections), but only two stitches are added. A larger needle is used for the bottom garter stitch edge to maintain gauge with the lace section.
