Adler
I have tiny feet, which means that when I make socks, I always have leftover yarn. I wanted to find a way to use the beautiful yarn that would have just languished in my stash otherwise. That was the inspiration for Adler.
The graphic increases on this beret, as well as the spiral texture, are reminiscent of the arms of a spiral galaxy. That’s why I named it after Chicago’s planetarium (and why I spent most of my knitting time working on it while watching episodes of the Big Bang Theory). I think this would be perfect for the astrophysicist in all of us!
SKILLS: knitting in the round using circular and double pointed needles, increasing using kfb and yarn overs, de- creasing using k2tog and p2tog
MATERIALS: Approximately 200 yards (182 meters) fingering weight yarn. I used superwash sock yarn; the su- perwash merino created amazing drape. Shown in Dream in Color smooshy.
Size US 3 (3.25mm) 16” circular needles
Size US 3 (3.25mm) double pointed needles
Size US 1 (2.5mm) 16” circular or double pointed needles
Six stitch markers, including one in contrasting color to mark beginning of round.
