My sister, BIL, two daughters and I saw The Hobbit over Christmas break. There is a ton of awesome knitted apparel in the movie. I found myself very distracted by it. Humorously enough, my sister was distracted by the crochet doily and my BIL saw all sorts of pottery I missed. We’re all rather crafty.

I was particularly taken by Gandalf’s mitts. While not meant to be an exact match this pattern was inspired by his fingerless gloves.

An adventurous pair of fingerless gloves in worsted weight, they can be easily tailored to your tastes with an optional cuff for folding back.

You will need to work back and forth on a few rows after working in the round. This can be a little uncoordinated for the first row or two, but gets easier quickly.

These mitts are meant to be worn inside out but look great right-side out as well, so look at both sides carefully and weave in ends on whichever side you decide is the inside. Or better yet, carefully weave in ends along the top and let them be reversible!
