The fronts and back are knitted in one piece to the armholes to simplify completion and to minimise the number of ‘ends’ to darn in. There are no more than two colours of wool used in any one row in the ‘Fair Isle’ pattern, and no more than 5sts between each colour change. Carry the wool not in use, loosely on the wrong side of the garment. The body and sleeve lengths have been designed to ensure that the ‘Fair Isle’ pattern matches at the sleeve/ body seams. Alteration to these lengths is not recommended by anyone other than very experienced knitters.

The welt, cuffs and collar have moss stitch on the right side and are self-faced. For the welt and cuffs, this requires picking up the stitches of the cast on edge once the moss stitch has been completed, simplified by casting on by the thumb method. Fair Isle chart included.
