Aino, a female name meaning ‘only’ is a character in the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala. She is a beautiful young maiden with a tragic ending, who drowns herself rather than marrying an elderly man. The pattern Aino has been a creation in the making for almost a year and finally made in to a reality during a long and cold night. Aino knits up quickly, with only 60 grams of DK-weight yarn.

11 stitches x 15 rows = 5 x 5 cm in stockinette stitch. Please note that you will need the yarn used for swatch to make the mittens out of one skein of main colour.
