The god of time represented as a cycle rather than a linear progression, Aion was associated with eternity and often depicted with snakes, as they shed their skin once it dies and ‘renew’ themselves with the new skin underneath. I love thinking about time and the way we experience it. One of my favourite discussions is how different writers use different iterations of time travel - I love the way JK Rowling uses it in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - it makes logical sense to me, as opposed to say, Back to the Future’s representation of time travel. I love the idea that snakes and other creatures who shed are eternally renewing. The rotating triangles that form the mosaic edge of this shawl can be symbolic of the cyclical nature of time, whilst also visually similar to scales.

Knit up in a rich, silky DK yarn, Aion is a thick and snuggly shawl. However, the silk in the yarn gives it much-needed softness and drape, so that it is not at all stiff.
