Reminiscent of a painting done on plaster this stitch pattern combines seed stitch squares and little columns of cables. At the crown seed stitch continues in the midst of tapering cables.
Suggested yarn does not have a lot of memory. You can use clear elastic thread to help the matter.

Option II
The green hat shown is made from 1 ball of Cascade 220 superwash yarn. No change in the pattern. The nature of the yarn makes it a smaller slouchy. No elastic thread is needed for this yarn.
