A cardigan is a perfect thing to knit for a child. It works up fast with DK weight yarn. The simple cabling looks really impressive, but is pretty easy to work if you’re familiar with cabling techniques. The shawl collar adds a little extra visual interest and is easy to work in simple ribbing. This unisex pattern uses traditional, top-down Raglan shaping, so it is very approachable.

Needles: Size US 6/4 mm and size US 5/3.75 mm circular needles with a long, 40”/100 cm cable, or size needed to obtain gauge and one size smaller.

Gauge: 22 sts and 26 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette stitch on larger needles.

Notions: Waste yarn (for provisional cast on), 10 stitch markers (4 plain markers of one color, 6 locking markers of another color), 3 - 12 medium-sized (.75”/2 cm) buttons, blocking mat, blocking wires (optional), t-pins, and tapestry needle.

Techniques: Crochet Chain Provisional Cast On, knitting in the round, picking up stitches, cabling, chart reading, wrap and turn, and make one increases.
