Aljustrel is known for its explorations in mining and metallurgy which started during the Copper Age roughly 3000 BC. During this time, materials were collected and the proof thereof lies in the hills of “Nossa Senhora do Castelo” (Our Lady of the Castle), where the population of that time lived.
At the end of the 1st century BC the Roman occupation began on the Mangancha hill, where there is indication tat military garrison settled there and where the exploration of mining began as well as that of a new village.
Around the beginning of the 1600’s is where the Aljustrel Mine was first mentioned, then around the 1650’s there was a royal official who sold a pigment known as Ajustrel Blue.
It is on the base of Aljustrel’s history in mining and ironworks that I’ve based these socks, having created an iron fencework for the design.

Aljustrel é conhecida pelas suas explorações mineiras e metalúrgicas que começaram durante o século 3 aC, a Idade do Cobre. Durante esta época, foram recolhidos materiais e a prova disso está nos montes de Nossa Senhora do Castelo, onde vivia a população da época.
No final do século 1 aC inicia-se a ocupação romana no morro da Mangancha, onde há indícios da instalação de uma guarnição militar e onde se iniciou a mineração e um novo povoamento.
Por volta do início de 1600 a Mina de Aljustrel foi mencionada pela primeira vez, depois por volta de 1650 havia um oficial real que vendia um pigmento conhecido como Azul de Ajustrel.
É com base na história da Aljustrel na mineração e siderurgia que baseei estas meias, tendo criado uma vedação de ferro para o desenho.
