The difference in this thrummed mitten pattern is the thumb construction. Inspired by Cat Bordhi’s “Personal Footprints” sock knitting book, the body of the mitten is knit without a thumb opening. Lifelines are placed where the thumb will go, the yarn is (carefully!) cut open, and the thumb is added to the otherwise finished mitt.

The result is a beautiful, seamless and hole-free thumb!
