This alpaca beanie hat is knit in the round. It features a parade of 6 alpacas circling the body of the hat with garter stitch stripes above and below. It can be topped with a pompom or an Icord knot or left plain.

I designed the hat to work with a neighbor’s all natural alpaca yarn (Borgstein Alpaca Farm). Alpaca fits the theme of the hat, but it is not necessary to use it - my test knitter used washable merino wool.

Best to use 2 contrasting colors of yarn: 90 yards of main color and 20 yards of a contrast color. A 3 inch pompom will need about 15-20 yards more of yarn.
