This hat is knit from the bottom up. You begin with the ribbing, worked flat, which later on gets turned inside out when you cuff it. After the ribbing, you join to begin working in the round, work one purl row to help with cuffing, and then another inch of ribbing. The rest is knit in stockinette stitch. You will notice that the ribbing is knit with more stitches than the rest of the hat. This is so that the ribbing is not too stretched out once it is cuffed.
