The Alum Bay three-piece wash set was inspired by the beautiful coast of the Isle of Wight. The three stripes reflect the uniquely colourful mineral-rich sands, which are often layered in bottles as classic keepsakes.

The simple wavy texture – known as even moss stitch – is a combination of two basic stitches, making this an elegant yet beginner-friendly pattern.

Each cloth is worked as one piece for added strength and durability, as well as giving you fewer ends to weave in! You’ll be working in rows, then creating a small hanging loop in one corner and continuing around each edge with a small picot border.

Using a slightly larger hook size for your starting chain lengths will help you to get the right tension and ensure that your cloths don’t pucker along the bottom edge.

Each cloth is finished off with a hanging loop for hygiene purposes and practicality – helping the fabric dry after use – and a simple picot border. You can, however, omit these final steps if your prefer.

While this pattern was designed as a wash set, you could also use the face scrubbie as a coaster, the wash cloth as a pot holder or washing up cloth, and the hand towel as a tea towel – the choice is yours! Whatever you decide, I hope this pattern trio will help to brighten up your home.

I used Hobbii Yarn’s Rainbow Bamboo – three skeins in Almond and one each in Aqua, Green Tea and Curry. You can grab some for yourself here.

You could, of course, increase or decrease the size of each piece to suit your needs and desires, but the measurements below should give you an idea of what you can expect.

Face Scrubbie: 10cm x 10cm / 4” x 4” = 32.5m / 35.5 yds (approx. 13g)
Wash Cloth: 19cm x 19cm / 7.5” x 7.5” = 97.5m / 106.5 yds (approx. 39g)
Hand Towel: 30.5cm x 48.25cm / 12” x 19” = 462.5m / 505.5 yds (approx. 185g)

Happy crocheting!
