This super-simple hat is perfect for the little unicorn lover in your life! It is a great pattern for beginners to the magic loop or knitting in the round. Pompoms, ears, and a horn are added after the basic hat is finished. You get a lot of flair without being overly complicated.

Sizes: Baby (Toddler, Child, Average Adult, Large Adult) to fit an actual head circumference of about 14” (16.5”, 19”, 21”, 23”)/35.5 (42, 48.5, 53.5, 58.5) cm with negative ease.

Yarn: 150 - 350 yards/140 - 320 meters of bulky weight yarn total; approximately 45% each in two contrasting colors (for the body and the hair) and 10% in a third color (for the horn).

Sample shown in Baah Sequoia colorway Enchanted and Hanks and Hookers Chunky colorway Ocean Sunset.

Needles: Size US 13/9 mm and US 11/8 mm circular needles with a long 40”/100 cm cable, or size needed to obtain gauge and needles 1 size smaller. You may substitute double-point needles for the circular needle if preferred.

Gauge: 11 stitches x 16 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette stitch on the larger needles.

Notions: 8 stitch markers, a party balloon (optional, for blocking), a tapestry needle, a small amount of fiber fill or yarn scraps (to stuff the horn), pompom makers (sample uses sizes 45 mm, 35 mm, 25 mm, and 20 mm), and t-pins.

Techniques: Knitting in the round (via magic loop or double-point needles), basic increases and decreases, 5-Needle Bind Off (https://youtu.be/3s6dbDej1W0 - optional), and pompom making.
