American Girl Handwarmers

February 2012
Fingering / 4 ply (14 wpi) ?
US 3 - 3.25 mm
10 - 14 yards (9 - 13 m)
This pattern is available for free.

This is a great way to use up the little ends of left over sock yarn! Uses about 10 yards per glove.
Use sock yarn and size 3 (3.25mm) DPNs.

Seed stitch: (k1, p1) around
Don’t knit 2 in a row at the end of a round, just keep alternating (k1, p1) for 4 rows.

Cast on 21 stitches. Redistribute stitches evenly onto DPNs as you do row 1.
Row 1-4: Seed stitch
Rows 5-12: knit around
Row 13: Turn, purl (creating an opening for the thumb)
Row 14: Turn, knit across
Row 15-18: repeat rows 13 & 14
Rows 19-22: Seed stitch (in the round, as in Rows 1-4)
Bind off loosely, keeping it as stretchy as possible (the dolls have their fingers extended and opened and if it’s too tight, it’ll be hard to get it over her big fingers, especially for a little kid).
