I used pipe-cleaners for arms so they are bendable.

It works well in any type of yarn, the size of finished octopus depends on the yarn and crochet hook you use.

If done with a 2 mm hook and appropriate yarn he is app. 6” (15 cm) tall and 11” (28 cm) wide (with stretched arms). If done with an E (3.5mm) hook - 8” (20 cm) tall and 18” (46 cm) wide (with stretched arms).
