Who says you can’t own your own volcano? I don’t!

Why not try knitting up a whole bunch to decorate your mantlepiece or bookshelf? They also make super cute gifts for geologists, physicists and, of course, vulcanologists!

The ButterflyLove Amigurumi Volcano Family pdf knitting pattern gives you clear step by step instructions to make your own unpredictable geological features.

The basic patterns are augmented with advice on how to make:

  • the main lava pit
  • smoke plumes
  • furrowed surfaces
  • lava flows

It only involves knitting flat and this pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter or beginner wishing to expand their skill set.

What you will need:

2 knitting needles (US3 or size required to match tension advice)
2 knitting needles (US2)
10-20g dark gray yarn for the mummy volcano
10g light gray yarn for the baby volcano
5g dark red yarn
5g bright red yarn
4 black toy safety eyes (9mm)
Quilt wadding (optional)
Some stiff cardboard
Polyfil
1 tapestry needle for finishing

Skills used:

Casting on and off
Increasing
Decreasing
A little embridery

Stitches used:

Stocking stitch
