The Ammonite Shawl was intended to be worn as a beach wrap, or shawl on cooler summer evenings, which is why I chose linen yarn.
Cotton, or any other plant-based fibre yarn will work just as well.

The yarn weight is a No.3/light DK, or sports weight, as it is meant to be a summer design.

The majority of the shawl consists of a simple eyelet lace pattern with an i-cord edge on the left-hand side, representing the ridge of an ammonite’s shell, and lateral braids that represent the simplified suture lines of an ammonite’s chamber walls. The lateral braids are repeated on the basis of the golden ratio, and combined with decreases to complete the ammonite-like appearance of the shawl.

Since this is a fairly straight forward pattern, the written instructions are only accompanied by a very simple chart.

This pattern was reviewed by a tech editor, and is available in English and German.
