“Anahata Chakra” is a mandala pattern that looks similar to our heart chakra. It is flower shaped and has 12 petals. I have added instructions for both the simple one-color version and the colorful version in this applique pattern.

I was designing a different mandala pattern and this pattern just popped up on its own while I was crocheting. Seriously, I didn’t make it. It had a mind of its own and it all happened on its own. I love it when this happens. It’s like the universe is telling me to meditate on my Anahata Chakra.

A little information about Anahata Chakra:
In Sanskrit, the word “Chakra” means a “Disk” or a “Wheel” which refers to the energy centers in your body. These wheels or disks of spinning energy each correspond to certain nerve bundles and major organs. To function at their best, your chakras need to stay open, or balanced.

Anahata or Heart chakra is the fourth primary chakra. Anahata means “unhurt, unstruck, and unbeaten” and is associated with balance, calmness, and serenity. The name of this chakra signifies the state of freshness that appears when we are able to become detached and to look at the different and apparently contradictory experiences of life with a state of openness.

Anahata is represented by a lotus flower with twelve petals with 2 triangles intersecting each other in the center which looks like a star. Anahata is associated with the ability to make decisions outside the realm of karma. In Anahata, one makes decisions (“follows one’s heart”) based on one’s higher self, not the unfulfilled emotions and desires of lower nature. As such, it is known as the heart chakra. It is also associated with love and compassion, charity to others and psychic healing.

Materials:
Suggested Yarns:
I used a size 10 weight thread and size 1.75mm crochet steel hook to make the applique. I used approximately 15-17 yards of thread which is Lotus International (India) Red Rose Stranded Cotton which is an embroidery floss.

I Used:
Lotus International (India) Red Rose Stranded Cotton(100% Cotton; 42 yds38m; CYCA # 0): #Apple, #Red, #Orange, #Gold, #Lemon, 1 ball each.

Crochet Hook Size:
1.75 mm/ US 00 size crochet steel hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions:
Stitch Marker(S)
Sewing Needle
Scissors

Gauge:
Gauge is not important for this applique. You can make it big or small using a different yarn and hook.

With the thread I used, the gauge was:
8 sc x 8 rows = 1” (2.54 cm) with 1.75mm(US 00) size crochet hook.
