This pair of mitts was designed for my niece, Andrea, to celebrate her 16th birthday. Andrea’s love of reading, especially Christian historical romances, was my main inspiration for using the various elements such as twisted stitches, a rosette-like bobble and lace pattern, and a picot bind-off.

Due to the complexity of knitting the thumb gusset every 3 rows, and the lace and bobbles every other, I not only charted the lace, but created a table that tells the knitter what to do to the stitches on each needle for each round of the gusseted part. {It’s the only way I could keep track of where I was in pattern while I was designing!}

Updated 3.22.14: Now with full charts for knitting the thumb gussets and lace & knots for the back of hands. If you can read charts, this should make it much easier for you to follow.

The pattern is written for two sizes. The numbers used for the larger size are marked with ( ) and are in bold type.

With 1 skein of Pediboo, I was able to knit a pair of both sizes (and still had a little leftover yarn). If substituting a different yarn, be sure to check your gauge by knitting a swatch in the round!

Happy knitting!
