Anita was my friend. She had the biggest heart of anyone I ever met - EVER. A kind and giving person who touched many many lives in our community. Anita passed away suddenly in her sleep on January 29, 2013 at the age of 52. This shawl pattern was written in memory of her.

Rows of hearts extend from a garter tab cast on at the center neck, flowing into an elaborate border of lace hearts and flowers. There is the option to do beads, nupps, both or none. Anita would have loved it, and that, after all, is the point.

As this is a lace shawl, gauge is not important.

Sample shown was made with 2 balls of Grignasco Merinosilk 25, plus enough extra to do the second strand of the double bind-off. Any lace weight yarn will do. The sample shawl used approximately 450 size 8/0 beads.

Difficulty is rated at intermediate because of the nupps in the original design. Without nupps, adventurous beginners may be able to knit this pattern.

HUGE thanks to RogueKnits and JWeston for volunteering to test knit this pattern.

All proceeds generated in the first month after publication have been donated to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation in Anita’s name.

NOTE: The faggoting section is done in garter stitch, use the written directions if you are confused.

errata: There were several extra ‘no stitch’ notations on Border Chart I. Version 2 uploaded September 17, 2013. (Thanks for noticing, Janet.) Also P7tog above nupps missed on Border Chart 1.
