I have very fond memories of Anna, my grandma. The contours of grapevines, fruit trees and flowers covering the field of her garden made for beautiful mosaics when seen from a distance. This has inspired me in latest creation, the shawl Anna.

This shawl design features the harmonious mosaic motives combined with garter stitch stripes on the shawl’s panels. Using yarns with varying levels of two or more contrast colors, we can create dynamic visual interest and make Anna shawl an entertaining knit.

N O T E! The pattern is both fully written and charted. In the pattern you’ll find an explanation for working a mosaic pattern and reading the charts.

CONSTRUCTION
This shawl is knit sideways in one piece, starting in the right corner and increasing toward the wide edge to create an asymmetrical triangle. The I-cord selvedge is worked at the same time as the body and hides the yarn when switching colors. You will also use I-cord to bind off your shawl.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Top Edge: 65 inches / 165 cm
Depth at widest part: 32 inches / 82 cm. Measurements taken after blocking.

ESTIMATED YARN REQUERED

Main Color (MC): 462 yards (422 m) |100 grams
Contrast Color (CC): 345 yards (316 m) |75 grams

Sample 1 shawl shown on the front page knit with fingering weight yarn:
KnitPicks 100% wool, 231 yards (211 m) |50 grams.
Colorways:
MC: Marbel charcoal
CC: Finnley Heather

Recommended yarn:
 Look for natural fiber yarn or yarn with a minimum synthetic content that holds blocking well.
 This shawl looks great in both solid or gradient color fingering or sport weight yarn. Be sure to use strongly contrasting colors, do swatch the colorwork and wet blocking it to make sure you’re happy with the way your yarn works.
 The pattern is written to result the light flowers on a dark background - MC, CC is the color of the round counters and flowers. (Sample 1 shawl). If you would like to reverse this (dark round counters and flowers on the light background), use the separate pdf for reversed option (Sample 2 shawl).
