This pattern is available for free.

This pattern will include 30 free knitting patterns for 6″ (15 cm) squares. I’ll share square patterns on Thursdays (except for the first Thursday of each month, when I co-host the Knitting Love Link Party with Jessie At Home) from January through September, 2016. In October, 2016, I’ll share 4 patterns for borders so you can have time to complete your blanket by the end of the year.

If you make one of each square, you’ll have enough for a baby blanket, but there are other options, too! Download the Planning Your Blanket handout, which includes a blanket sizing chart and a planning grid, if you’d like to make a larger size.

The squares are designed using medium (worsted/aran/#4) weight yarn and a US Size 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needle. Each square will require about 41 yds (37.5 m) of yarn. My sample squares are made in Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash, and each square is designed in one color, but you can add stripes if you’d like. You can even use a different weight of yarn, though you may need more (or less) yarn if you make changes. (If you do use Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash, you’ll need about 6 skeins to complete a baby blanket.)
