Here is a perfect pattern for self-striping yarns. The easy ribbed pattern keeps it easy and doesn’t detract or get lost in the fun colors. It is knit from the top down beginning with the cuff. Thorough explanations of each sock component is in the pattern as well as a kitchener stitch tutorial with diagrams.
Skill Level (1 Easy - 4 Advanced): 4 Advanced
Description: Although rated 4 because it is a sock, this is the most basic sock knit from the cuff down and a slip stitch heel. Toes grafted with Kitchener Stitch.
Needles: US size 3 (3.25 mm), 4 double pointed, or size needed for gauge
Notions: stitch marker, tapestry needle for seaming toe
Gauge: 6 stitches + 8 rows = 1 inch in stockinette stitch in the round
6.5 stitches + 7 rows = 1” in (p3, k1) ribbing in the round
7.5 stitches + 7 rows = 1” in (k1, p1) ribbing in the round
Yarn: any DK weight yarn
Total (for 2 socks): 218 (238, 252, 288) yards or 200(218, 230, 264) meters (10% added for personal knitting variance):

7.5” leg and foot circumference, 9” length
(2) Women’s Medium women’s 8-9/Men’s Small
men’s 6-7, 8” leg and foot circumference, 9.5” length
(3) Women’s Large women’s 10-11/Men’s Medium
men’s 8-9, 8” leg and foot circumference, 10.5” length
(4) Men’s Large (men’s 10-11)
8.5” leg and foot circumference, 11.5” length
Leg and foot circumferences sizes listed are slightly stretched.
