These Christmas stockings were inspired by the stockings worn by the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, one of Scotland’s most famous infantry regiments. The stockings are most recognized as worn by King George IV in Sir David Wilkie’s portrait commemorating the king’s historic visit to Scotland in 1822.

This pattern is written to be knitted with the Magic Loop method, but can be altered to be knitted on DPN’s. The toe and foot can be knitted in the round distributed onto 2 DPN’s, and the body can be knitted with the full set of DPN’s.
