The Arts & Crafts philosophy was a reaction against mass production and over-ornate decoration concealing or mis-representing the provenance and purpose of an item. It advocated traditional crafting by hand, using flat, simple motifs and forms, often inspired by nature & often in a romantic or folk style. It is an ideal of individual craftspeople taking pleasure in producing beautiful, hand crafted items.
So as well as providing us with a vast well of inspiration for beautiful motifs and rich colour, this theme is particularly apt since we will be crafting by hand, a beautiful, practical, blanket.<p>
Dimensions: The finished blanket is approximately 140cm by 140cm in size, and will consist of 49 squares, each having sides of 20cm approximately.<p>
Tension: the tension of the knitting should be 24 stitches and 28 rows to 10cm approximately.<p>
Materials: 12 Different colours of 4ply yarn, approximately 100g of each colour; needles to obtain the gauge.<p>
Full instructions are included for working every part of the blanket, including sewing together and finishing off.<p>
