I named this shawl Astoria because this is where my knitting obsession began. Years ago, before life became so hectic with all of our responsibilities, I used to go on girls getaway trips with a group of my high school friends. In 2008, our trip took us to the beautiful Oregon coastline where we all decided to learn something new. One of my friends suggested knitting so we all signed up for a knitting class in a cute little yarn shop in Astoria, Oregon. I can remember the pure joy and relaxation I felt as I pulled each stitch through the loop with my needles. I designed Astoria to reflect the comfort and relaxation while being surrounded by my friends that I remember fondly when I think back to that day.
