Drawing inspiration from my Scandinavian heritage and my childhood favorite author, Astrid Lindgren, I wanted to design socks that are at the same time traditional and yet contemporary. These socks are knitted from the cuff down with a reinforced afterthought heel. They can be knitted with two colors or you can add a third color for accented heels and toes.

Yarn requirements:
Fingering weight sock yarn in two or more colors. You need 200 m / 220 yards of main color and 125 m / 137 yards of contrasting color for two color version or 35 meters / 38.5 yards of contrasting color 1 and 90 m / 98 yards of contrasting color 2. The sample was knitted with Drops Fabel (205m / 224 yards per 50g), shade 104 purple as main color and shade 111 mustard as contrasting color 1, and Drops Baby Merino (175 m / 191 yards per 50 g) shade 23 light beige as contrasting color 2

Needles:

  • 2.5mm/US 1 ½ DPNs or circular needles if using the magic loop method for the cuffs
  • 3.0mm/US 2 ½ DPNs or circular needles if using the magic loop method for the main fabric

Gauge:
15 sts and 21 rows per 5 cm / 2 inches with bigger needles over main fabric

Size:
Women’s medium. Circumference over leg 22 cm / 8 ⅔ inches. Length can be adjusted.
