Remember going to the amusement park when you were a kid? Cotton candy, scary roller coasters, and best of all, the Gravitron, which spun you around until you felt like you were floating in mid-air, or at least your stomach was? Until the motion sickness set in, you were carefree, buoyant and full of joy. Recapture that floaty feeling as you sweep people off their feet with this cute hat, and your brain floats in a veritable Sea of Tranquility above your neck!

The hat starts with a contrast-color turned hem, continues with a slightly dizzying visual treat – stranded colorwork stripes of alternating semi-solid and variegated yarns, and swirls to a triumphant close at its apex. Then a short-row brim is worked, continuing in the same vertiginous striping on top with a contrast-color underside.

Designed for the Malabrigo Quickies project. Many thanks to Malabrigo Yarn for their sponsorship of this pattern.

Uses less than one skein of each of two colors. Looks best in one semi-solid and one variegated colorway.
