This traveling-stitch pattern uses one of the automata described in Knit Stranded Cellular Automata. The large charts may look intimidating, but except for the edge stitches, the stitch pattern repeats (with a sideways shift) every 20 rows. Instead of following the chart stitch by stitch, try following the automata rules directly.
