100% merino wool handwarmers are perfect for upcoming chilly fall weather. They keep your hands warm and your fingers free to text, type, sew, knit or pick apples and pumpkins outside. To celebrate fall, I chose variegated yarn with colors you might find in an autumn forest in September or October - golden green, brown, red and orange - from Malabrigo Merino Worsted yarn, so famous for its squishy softness against your skin.

There’s three sizes to choose from in the pattern. The handwarmer is knit with ribbing in a smaller needle size at the wrist and knuckles for a close, warm fit, and stockinette throught the rest of the glove. There’s a thumb gusset, a “half thumb” opening, and one opening for all four fingers. If you’re new to forming a thumb gusset, I provide a video link to a great tutorial.

Knit a pair in each color shown - and you’re ready to give warm and cozy fall gifts to 3 different sizes of hands!

Yarn: Malabrigo Merino Worsted. Colors shown in thumbnail: 224 Autumn Forest. Also shown in pattern: 615 Sotobosque, 240 Oceanus, 126 Brilliante, 173 Stonechat and 247 Whale’s Road

Finished Measurements:

Ages 8 and up to Adult Small:
6” (15 cm) circumference, 5.75”/14.5 cm in length.

Adult Woman Medium:
7” (18 cm) circumference, 7”/18 cm in length.

Adult Woman Large:
8” (20 cm) circumference, 7.5”/19 cm in length.

Note: to determine your size, measure your hand circumference above the thumb and just below your 4 fingers. This is your hand circumference. Your chosen size should have a finished circumference about a half inch to an inch smaller than your hand circumference, for the best snug fit.
