October 1st kicks off the month of awareness for several causes, including National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and World Day of Bullying Prevention. Last year Lion Brand Yarns asked me to design a blue hat for the #HatNotHate campaign. I designed 2 hats using a couple of their blue yarns, but felt like this year I needed to design a hat that would cover awareness for ANY and ALL causes. A hat that would become a go-to hat for raising awareness and supporting others who are suffering.

The teal hat in the photos was made for my niece Brylee who is a VACTERL warrior. <3

2 PDF Files Included

I’ve designed the single awareness ribbon beanie in 2 different yarn weights, DK & worsted. You will have the option to download each file individually.

  • DK file includes the Single Awareness Beanie.
  • Worsted file includes: Single Awareness Beanie, Awareness Ribbons & Hearts, & Awareness Ribbons, No Hearts. See the photos to the left.

Options
Each option is written individually as a complete pattern. There is also a graph included for each different design.

Yarn Notes

  • For the DK weight beanies, I made them using Lion Brand Yarn’s Coboo. This yarn is perfect for those going through cancer treatment and it’s approved by Knitted Knockers.
  • For the worsted weight beanies, I’ve listed several yarns above that will work. Please keep in mind if you’re making them to donate, that you choose a softer yarn. A cotton blend yarn is most preferred, and one without wool as it is itchy.

Adjusting Sizes
The pattern includes sizes: Kids, Teen/Adult Small and Adult Medium/Large.
You can easily adjust the single awareness ribbon beanie to fit any head size by making a stretchy hat band to fit the intended wearer’s head and working a stitch in each row around. Stitch count isn’t crucial for the single awareness ribbon beanie.

Beanie is an A Crocheted Simplicity original design.
