I love working with yarn from small scale producers and I get even more excited when it is from my home county of Yorkshire. The yarn I used came from a small Llama farm in the heart of North Yorkshire and is quite rustic in nature both in terms of its natural shades and overall handle. I wanted to design a cowl that would reflect these elements of nature and texture and be ideal for keeping warm whilst striding across the North Yorkshire Moors. The central flower motif reflecting the flora of the open countryside and the ribbed sections echoing the mixture of rugged landscape and ploughed fields. The cowl is slightly wider at the base than the top to help it sit nicely around the neck without being too open and letting the cold wind in at the top.

Lovers of supersoft merino may want to consider a yarn substitution for this pattern in which case any DK or light worsted weight yarn should work. If however you like your yarns with character and texture then the original yarn will be perfect.
