A bold geometric design inspired by the costuming in The Hobbit, this cowl is offered in both an unlined and (self-)lined version - for adventures requiring additional warmth.

The unlined cowl requires approximately 325 yards of the main color (MC), and approximately 125 yards of the contrast color (CC). The lined version requires approximately 375 yards of MC and 325 of CC. Both versions are knit in the round. The lined version starts with a provisional cast-on and is knit as a long tube, and is then joined with Kitchener stitch. The unlined version uses a regular cast-on and bind-off.

The main design is charted. Skills needed are knitting in the round, stranded knitting, and understanding how to read a chart. (Simple, really… read from the bottom to the top, and from right to left.)
