A perfect project for beginners, with the only skills needed being cast on, knit and cast off.

It is called “Ba, Humbug!” because the colours I selected for the test knit remind me of the hard boiled sweets called Humbugs from my childhood.

The hat can be worn as a slouchy hat or with a rolled brim so it’s 2 styles in one.

The stockinette gauge stated is that from the ball band of the yarns I used, but gauge is not critical to the success of this project. Actual worked gauge is about 18 stitches = 10cm in garter stitch.

You can choose to knit it all in one colour or add interest with a variegated or self-striping yarn, or knit stripes using different colours as I did. More advanced knitters can choose to make this seamless by using a provisional cast on, then grafting the starting edge to the finishing edge.
