I used 8ply and a 3.5mm hook. Finished flower was 8cm across.
You can use any yarn and the appropriate hook size you like.

I used small amounts of yarn to make this flower.

If you sew 2 together and add fibre fill you can make it 3D. I have done this and it looks great!
