This pattern is knitted in the round in Valley Yarns Superwash wool, but it can be knit in any worsted weight yarn. The face was made with duplicate stitch.

Newborn hat circumference is ~ 14” and 4” tall with natural roll brim
3-6 is ~ 16” and 5” tall
6-12 is ~ 18” and 6” tall

I used Valley Yarns super was merino wool in light yellow with contrasting black for eyes and orange for beak.
Instructions for the top “feathers” can be a brushed pom pom for “fuzz” feathers or finger knitted or crocheted for curly cue feathers.

Hat can be made with 16” size 6 circular needles or double pointed.
Double pointed are used for decreasing at the top and for the little top hat!

Of course that hat can be made longer or shorter, and I sometimes go up a needle size if I need to work the baby hats in a crunch timeline, or for a slightly larger headed baby!
