Note about yarn:
Be aware that some worsted weight yarns crochet up thicker than others. I highly recommend using cotton yarn purely because it crochets thicker than most synthetic and that is what this pattern is based off of - I cannot guarantee the same results with synthetic yarn. If you go with synthetic yarn, be sure to get a bulky weight or use a larger hook.
Newborn Size:
To make the hat fit more custom for smaller newborns, simply take out one of the shell & v-st rows - so instead of 4, make 3.
5T - Adult sizes:
To make this hat larger, simply add two more DCs on the first row. You can also make the crown larger (the part before the decorative pattern) by adding extra rows of DCs - but do not continue the increases on the extra rows.
This is a hat pattern I have been developing since 2008. It is very simple, yet classic and nice. The scalloped edge adds a nice embellishment.
Please note: pattern comes with beanie and flower pattern.
Errata:
Disregard the step bolded below
Row 11: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in previous st, hdc in next st, co-hdc around, join in first hdc.
Should read:
Row 11: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in previous st, co-hdc around, join in first hdc.
