All of a sudden it seems like everyone I know is having a baby! This is my favorite baby sweater and hat pattern. I’ve been knitting it for years and have finally written down my “recipe”. It’s a simple, classic, top-down raglan sweater with no seaming required. The hat is equally simple and matches perfectly. The sweater and the hat take about 2 days to knit. It’s great for a last minute gift!

The pattern has instructions for one size only, newborn to 3 months. It’s my favorite size to knit and give. I feel like I have a better idea of what fiber to use, depending on when the due date is, and that it is immediately useful.

The best part of this pattern is, it’s infinitely changeable! If you have a bunch of worsted weight partial skeins left over, you can stripe to your hearts’ content. There’s plenty of room on the front for a little intarsia heart, or you can knit it in one color and embellish with surface crochet. (Can you tell I have plans for this pattern?)

The sweaters and hats pictured are knit in Berroco’s Modern Cotton for Spring and Summer babies, but any worsted weight yarn will work.
