This baby bootie pattern is a quick knit with a lot of stretch to fit a large number of baby dolls. It was designed specifically for early 1980s soft sculpture “preemie” dolls, but is not restricted to them.

While the pattern is straight-forward and easy to knit, it also lends itself to a lot of improvisation and color work to keep the advanced knitter entertained. A pair of these booties are easily considered a weekend project, or perhaps a two-evening project if you’re a fast knitter.

Notes are included in the pattern to adapt it not only for American Girl’s Bitty Baby, but also for any size of doll. Additionally, there are comments on how to adapt the pattern to any weight of yarn and any size of doll.

You have the option of including an eyelet row on the ankle for a crocheted or ribbon drawstring. You can, of course, leave this out, as you prefer.

The pattern includes instructions for 5 different ankle cuff styles and two different sole types.
