Bad Apple is 3 Kittens Needle Arts knit pattern for the 2024 Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop. The pattern will be available for purchase/download after the Shop Hop ends on 4/14/24.

For the 2024 Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop, the 3 Kittens Needle Arts’ theme was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (the Disney version, because I love all things Disney).

Bad Apple plays with gradient yarns to create a fun and compelling bandana-style cowl. I used Gusto Wool Echoes which comes in two identical mini-skeins (for matching socks). When wound into balls, Echoes provides you with the same starting color and goes through a full gradient with each ball. The pattern is written to create staggered gradients with the two separate balls. You can use other fingering-weight gradients, just make sure that the colors of your two balls of yarn are different enough to not cause a blending of colors in any of the sections.

The cowl comes in one size - 29.5” circumference (at neck) x 21” deep. The row gauge is more important than the stitch gauge, as you want to make sure that you get at least a 29.5” circumference at the top. (Make sure to block your gauge swatch for the most accuracy.) To make the cowl larger or smaller, you can increase or decrease the row gauge, but keep in mind that you may need more yardage to make it larger.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn - Gusto Wool Echoes - one 2-skein bundle
  • Needles - US 5/3.75 24-32” circular needles or size to obtain gauge
