This pattern was developed with reference to a variety of vintage balaclava and hat patterns, but with adaptations to ensure that it fitted my 4 year old nephew (head circumference 21”). I had tried making several other patterns, including one that said it was for a 5-7 year old, but they did not fit so this became an ‘Emergency Balaclava’!

The pattern is worked entirely in ribbing so that it snuggly fits my four year old nephew but I hope it will also be stretchy enough to ‘grow’ with him for a few seasons at least!

This pattern could be easily adjusted to fit different sized heads.
