This is an easy shawl with an eyelet pattern for body and a shy little pointy border. It uses simple lace techniques and is knitted in garter stitch to look the same on both sides - no purling needed!
It’s knitted top down, center out and can be knit to any size.

Size, yarn and needles
Since the size is highly adaptable, you can use any yarn you like and needles that fit that yarn; gauge is not important. The original shawl was knitted using a homespun 100% merino 2-ply yarn (approx 13 wpi, 248 m/142 g) and 6 mm needles. I then testknitted a miniversion using laceyarn and 3 mm needles, which look good too.

Yardage
Yardage depends on desired size. The original red-purple-brown shawl used approx 230 m (130 g) and is approx 175 x 40 cm.

Materials needed:

  • A nice, goodlooking yarn of your choice
  • Needles that fit that yarn
  • One marker
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
  • Crochet needle (for bind off, optional)
  • Blocking equipment

The border pattern has gone through some minor changes since the original shawl was knitted to make the outermost points a little smaller. This new border has been testknitted using black lace yarn and 3 mm needles and was knitted to be a minishawl suited for a teddybear.

Pattern includes both charts and written instructions and is available in both English and Swedish.
