I wanted to write a sock pattern for my favorite sock yarn - the stretchy cotton/elastic sort that seems to cause so much consternation among the wool sock knitting crowd.

So here it is! The Tiny Bamboo stitch gives an interesting texture to solid yarns and breaks up some of the pooling on multi-colored yarns, making this a good everyday sock pattern. I’ve done all the math you need to take the mystery out of this super stretchy yarn. Just relax and enjoy the socks.

These socks are knit two at a time from the toe up with a modified heel flap and applied i-cord edging. This pattern assumes you have familiarity with knitting two socks at once with your weapon of choice (the instructions are written for two circular needles but are easily modified for other methods). The pattern uses 48 stitches for a womens’ size 9 shoe size. However, this yarn is very stretchy, so it fits a range of sizes. The socks may look disconcertingly small while you’re knitting them, but try them on. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

This was first published as the Play Yarn Dash free pattern for July 2009.
