THIS SOCK FEATURES AN EASILY MEMORIZED REPEAT AND CAN SHOW OFF BOTH A SOLID YARN, A SEMI-SOLID YARN, OR A VARIEGATED YARN TO GOOD ADVANTAGE. THIS SOCK FEATURES TOP-DOWN CONSTRUCTION WITH A HEEL FLAP, HEEL TURN, GUSSET WITH HORIZONTAL DECREASES, AND A STANDARD TOE. THIS PATTERN IS PERFECT FOR EITHER A NOVICE SOCK KNITTER OR THE ADVANCED SOCK KNITTER WHO WANTS A GOOD TRAVEL PROJECT.

SIZING & GAUGE - Choose your yarn and needle size and work up a swatch in the round. I read a great tip on this on how to work up swatches to show three (or four) different needle sizes at once. Using DPNs, set aside two DPNs of each needle size that you want to swatch with. Cast one-third (one-fourth) of the stitches onto each of the three (four) different needles. As you work in the round, work the stitches off the left-hand needle with the same size needle on the right. Once the stitches are worked off the left-hand needle, put down that needle and pick up the size that corresponds with the next DPN in the round. Continue around and bind off loosely when done. When you have determined which needle size produces the most desirable fabric in the yarn you have chosen, measure the stitches per inch, including half-stitches, and locate that SPI in the grid to the left. Follow that row to the right, locate the circumference that you desire, and then follow that column up to the cast on number. I recommend a 10% negative ease in socks. This means that if you have a foot circumference of 9 inches, you would want to knit a sock to an 8.1 inch circumference.

MATERIALS – 100g fingering weight yarn; DPNs, two circulars, or one long circular; stitch markers. Typical needle size for fingering yarn is between 2.00mm and 3.25mm (US 0 to US 3).
