The crochet world probably doesn’t need another earwarmer, but I had to jump on the bandwagon anyway. I always feel silly wearing hats, but I am prone to earaches with the cold winter winds.

Turns out, I love the texture produced by this stitch, which is a variation on the crumpled griddle stitch. Lefties take note: I’m a southpaw too, so you don’t have to guess how the project will turn out for you!

Because this pattern is only 66 stitches for a few rounds, it’s absolutely suitable for a fairly confident beginner. The most esoteric thing used is the foundation single crochet, and I’ve linked to a tutorial in the PDF (the sooner you learn it, the better, trust me--it’s going to solve all your lack of stretch problems!). You’ll have something cute with a minimum of fuss and frustration, and probably want to use the stitch on everything else like I now do.
