These unisex berets and slouchy hats possess just a smidgen of drape.

Think small, simple, refined.

The Barely Beret can be Green Beret macho, or Pretty in Pink girly. They’re worked from the top down in joined rounds.

NOTE: The Slightly Slouchy version was added to this pattern in April 2014.

Both the Slightly Slouchy and the Beret can be embellished with crocheted flowers.

The pattern offers five sizes with finished circumferences at the bottom edge of 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 in./46, 48, 51, 53, 56 cm.

The gauge is 12 sc = 4 in./10 cm in worsted weight yarn.

Yardage ranges from 100 to 117 yd. for the beret, and from 120 to 146 yd. for the slouchy hat.

The 5-page PDF pattern, which uses U.S. crochet terms, also provides links for technique tutorials and stitch definitions for new crocheters. Bonus: This pattern’s method of joining rounds is so neat-looking that you may want to show off your hat’s “seam” as a design detail, as shown in the first photo of the striped hat.
