From the pattern:
They’re a quick and easy knit that are very forgiving - perfect for a first project. Use any yarn, and needles one half to one size smaller than recommended (you want the knitting to be tight so that the stuffing doesn’t come through the stitches).
I used a worsted weight cotton yarn and 4.0mm needles for these ones.
