This sweater came about completely because of the yarn. I bought it at STITCHES, where the folks from String Theory insisted on adding a skein of black because it looked so good with the grey mix. When I opened up all the skeins, I saw they were very different shades one from another. So this sweater was born with textured stitches that changed with each new skein of yarn, making a feature of the differences.

And, of course, I had to use the black. All this, and it turns out the jacket is just as handsome in a single color.

All the stitches are easy and pleasant to knit except for the one at the shoulder, but it’s so attractive, it’s worth the effort that it takes. The ruffle stitch at bottom and cuffs is especially pleasant to do if you pick the double wraps and throw the “3 in 1” stitches.
